POING
POING’s debut album from 2003 is now reissued! A beautiful vinyl version is available, with extra photos from the recording and remastered. Digital album is also available, both on Bandcamp.
Giants of Jazz captures the spirit of a very exciting time in Norwegian contemporary music: The trio’s members were in their mid-20s, and the music was prepared in close collaboration with the composers Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje, Øyvind Torvund, Eivind Buene and Knut Olaf Sunde, all well-known names in today’s music scene and lifelong musical partners of POING. POING have a lot of activities in 2026! Some highlights are several concerts at the chamber music festivals Glogerfestspillene, Risør kammermusikkfest and Tonehimmel. World premiers by Lasse Thoresen and Jonas Skaarud: The latter at the festival Only Connect in Oslo, where POING will also be soloists in music by Anthony Braxton, all together with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, conducted by Ilan Volkov.
POING have the last years made annual concerts at Riksscenen in Oslo, where they present a new version of a classic Norwegian album. In 2025 they did a-ha’s Hunting High and Low together with the trio Hekate, consisting of three of Norway’s finest young traditional singers. The two trios still tour with this project together, playing three festivals in 2026, continuing with more concerts and possibly a recording in 2027.
In 2026 the cover album project will be the 40 years’ celebration of Jokke & Valentinerne’s ‘Alt kan repareres’, a classic Norwegian rock/punk album. The artist Christopher Nielsen was an important part of his brother Joachim ‘Jokke’ Nielsen’s career, and is also a prominent collaborator for POING for this concert, that will be performed both in Oslo and in Risør. The project also includes several celebrated Norwegian singers and instrumentalists as guests with POING. Illustration of POING below by Christopher Nielsen.
POING will also do their annual tour with Maja S.K. Ratkje celebration Labour Day a whole week in three cities! And not to forget POING’s annual Christmas bonanza with an extended version of POING on stage at the National Jazz Scene in Oslo in December. As well as recordings and several other concerts.
